What We Do - Culver Henderson - Toronto Barrier Free Architectuals

We practice:

Architecture (Ontario Association of Architects Registration)
Interior Design (Association of Registered Interior Designers of Ontario)
Urban Design (Master of Urban Design Studies from the University of Toronto)
(we are one of the few design firms that specializes in architectural, interior and urban design projects).

If you need:

Building Permits,
Committee of Adjustment presentations,
Ontario Municipal Board (OMB) representation,
Neighbourhood Planning,
Historical Designation Research,
we are experts in negotiating with City Hall and the various regulatory authorities.

We specialize in the integration of buildings and landscapes and gardens. We believe that building design must accommodate all phases of our lives. We are therefore your first choice for:

Universal Design/ Barrier-Free Design/ Accessibility/ Age-in-place design, including ramps, elevators, grab bars, slip-free products, etc.

We have great experience:

Since 1991 we have built over 300 projects, representing:
All building types (residential, commercial, hospitality, retail, institutional, industrial, etc.). Prior to opening our office, Cynthia and Brad worked for some of the most prominent design firms in the world.

Cynthia worked with Jerome Markson, Gordon Ridgely and Andrew Volgyesi in Toronto, on some of the most exclusive residential projects in town.   She worked for Denton and Tunley Architects in Milton Keynes, UK and gained experience in the design of  health centres, residential and industrial buildings.

Brad worked with Sir Terence Conran’s architecture firm in London, England.

We are committed to designing ‘sustainable’ buildings, and are experts in the LEED criteria, in addition to other alternative ‘sustainable’ initiatives and philosophies.

We have created many custom-designed furniture solutions that reinforce the needs of our clients. These are custom designed lighting, seating, decorative wall panels, built-in furniture pieces and doggie shower and spa. We can source antiques and rare pieces through our extensive network of contacts.  We are able to find buyers for your furniture that is unsuitable for your next home.
We are also exploring several prototypes of ‘alterable’ children’s furniture.

Following the examples of many prominent architects, we have always combined practice with teaching.
Cynthia has taught in the Interior Design program at the International Academy and the Interior Decorating Program at Seneca College, and Brad teaches in the Interior Design Program at Sheridan College, where he was the Academic Coordinator from 2001 to 2003. He was also nominated as a TVO ‘Best Lecturer’ in 2009.

How We Bring Value to Your Project

We develop a budget and schedule to meet your needs. Each project is unique and requires special attention to detail.  Once the needs of you and your space are developed, we can share our vision with the help of computer-aided drawings and models. We also consider how the space fits into the neighbourhood, and its historical context.  Other important considerations are the long and short term economic benefits of the design, materials and fixtures.

As designers of the 21st Century, it is our responsibility to consider our impact on the environment.  We work with LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) consultants to ensure environmentally suitable construction.  We also had an article written about a new R-2000 home we built, which offers higher efficiency level.
Since 1991 we have built over 300 projects
